What types of programs does Seton Institute typically support? Seton Institute supports
primary healthcare projects of Catholic Sisters working in less developed countries. These programs generally fall into the following categories: Health Education & Training, HIV/AIDS, Infectious Disease, Medicine, Mother & Child, Nutrition and Water/Sanitation.
What types of programs does Seton Institute typically NOT support? Seton Institute typically does not fund proposals requests for building projects, vehicles and salaries. Nor do we fund projects for general school or education, including tuition, books or uniforms.
Does Seton support healthcare programs within the United States?No. The focus of Seton Institute is to support the work of Sisters to bring healthcare to the poorest communities in less developed countries throughout the world. Therefore, we focus our support in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and in select areas of Eastern Europe.
Who may apply?Catholic Sisters. Seton Institute will only consider project proposals submitted by Catholic Sisters for primary healthcare projects that will be carried out or overseen by Catholic Sisters.

Are there deadlines for submitting grant applications for review?Yes. In 2009 the deadlines were April 6 and August 3. Grant applications must be received by Seton Institute (via email, fax or post) on or before this date to be eligible for review at the following meeting of Seton Institute’s Board of Directors.
When does Seton Institute review grant applications?Three times per year Seton Institute’s Board of Directors reviews grant proposals. The Board of Directors usually meets approximately one month after the submission deadline.
If an application arrives after a grant deadline, what happens?The application will be considered in the next review period. Seton Institute will notify the applicant in which review period the application will be reviewed. There is no need to resend. To ensure timely delivery of your application, it is best to submit it via email.
What is the average size of the grants Seton Institute awards?Seton Institute awards grants that range anywhere from $500 to $50,000. The average grant award is usually $10,000 to $15,000.
How is Seton Institute funded?Ascension Health funds all operating costs of Seton Institute. Therefore, 100% of every donation received by Seton Institute from foundations, organizations or individuals directly supports the Sisters’ projects.
