More than anything else, I like to love. I had this love since I was little. I always wanted to be a missionary. I used to devour the books about the missions and the experiences of the Sisters in China, India, Africa…so many who died. This was my passion and my knowledge grew.
God opened the way for me to see what would make me happy and I listened.
You know, I waited almost 20 years to go on mission. And all those years I would write to the Superior General and to the Visitatrix of Sardinia, asking for permission. And they would say, “You should stay where you are.” I worked in a pre-school for 20 years, since 1974.
Finally, they said yes. I was so happy.
Then I went to Paris to prepare and there they told me I was going to Mozambique. I was so excited. I went to the library to learn about the country, its culture, its history. And then I read, “Mozambique has more cobras than any place in all of Africa.” “Ayye!” I said. I was terrified of cobras. “How can I go to Mozambique?”

CONGREGATION INFO
Founded in 1633 by St. Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac, the Daughters of Charity are an international community of women dedicated to serving the poor. Like other women who serve in the religious community, Daughters take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. But unlike other groups, they do not make perpetual vows. Every year on the Feast of the Annunciation, the Daughters choose to renew their commitment to God and vow of service to the poor. Today, more than 21,000 Daughters of Charity serve in 2,700 local communities and 90 countries.
